Metallographic Studies क्या हैं? इसका उद्देश्य क्या होता है?
Metallographic Studies का अर्थ है धातुओं और उनके मिश्रधातुओं की आंतरिक संरचना (internal structure) का सूक्ष्म अध्ययन। इस प्रक्रिया में धातु की सतह को पॉलिश करके और विशेष रसायनों (etchants) की सहायता से माइक्रोस्कोप के नीचे उसकी माइक्रोस्ट्रक्चर को देखा जाता है।
Metallography के प्रमुख उद्देश्य:
1. Microstructure की जाँच: Grain boundaries, phases, inclusions और voids को माइक्रोस्कोप द्वारा देखा जाता है।
2. Heat Treatment की प्रभावशीलता: यह जांचा जाता है कि heat treatment के बाद material का structure वैसा ही है जैसा अपेक्षित था या नहीं।
3. Material Failure Analysis: Cracks, fractures और defects का मूल कारण जानने में metallography सहायक होता है।
4. Alloy Composition की जांच: विभिन्न phases और उनकी distribution से alloy की गुणवत्ता और performance का आकलन किया जाता है।
Metallographic Study की प्रक्रिया:
- Sample Preparation: Metal specimen को कट करके उसका छोटा टुकड़ा लिया जाता है।
- Grinding and Polishing: Surface को smooth और scratch-free बनाया जाता है ताकि साफ़ माइक्रोस्ट्रक्चर दिखाई दे।
- Etching: रासायनिक पदार्थ द्वारा surface को treat किया जाता है जिससे grains और phases उभर कर आएं।
- Microscopic Examination: Prepared sample को optical या electron microscope के नीचे observe किया जाता है।
Metallography में उपयोग होने वाले माइक्रोस्कोप:
1. Optical Microscope: Basic magnification (up to 1000x) के लिए।
2. Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM): High magnification और surface topology के लिए।
3. Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM): Internal defects और dislocation analysis के लिए।
Metallographic Studies का महत्त्व:
- Failure analysis और quality control में सहायक।
- Material selection और alloy development के लिए आवश्यक।
- Welding, casting और forging के बाद structure की जांच।
