1. Low Density (कम घनत्व)
Aluminium की density लगभग 2.7 g/cm³ होती है जो इसे बहुत हल्का बनाती है। इसलिए इसे ऐसे applications में इस्तेमाल किया जाता है जहाँ weight कम रखना जरूरी होता है, जैसे कि aircraft और high-speed trains।
2. High Strength-to-Weight Ratio
Alloying के बाद Aluminium की strength बढ़ जाती है लेकिन इसका वजन नहीं बढ़ता। यह इसे structural applications में आदर्श बनाता है।
3. Ductility (लचीलापन)
Aluminium काफी ductile होता है और इसे आसानी से wire या sheet में बदला जा सकता है। Alloying से इसकी ductility कुछ हद तक कम हो सकती है, लेकिन fabrication के लिए यह अब भी उत्तम रहता है।
4. Corrosion Resistance (जंग प्रतिरोधक क्षमता)
Aluminium की surface पर एक thin oxide layer बन जाती है जो इसे corrosion से बचाती है। इसके alloys भी corrosive environments में अच्छे perform करते हैं।
5. Toughness (सघनता)
Aluminium alloys moderate toughness प्रदान करते हैं, जिससे ये impact loads को कुछ हद तक सहन कर सकते हैं। Cryogenic (बहुत कम तापमान) परिस्थितियों में इनकी toughness और बढ़ जाती है।
6. Fatigue Resistance
Aluminium alloys repeated loading के तहत लंबे समय तक काम कर सकते हैं लेकिन उनकी fatigue limit steels के मुकाबले थोड़ी कम होती है। इसीलिए इनका इस्तेमाल cautiously किया जाता है जहां cyclic loads आते हैं।
7. Hardness
Pure Aluminium अपेक्षाकृत soft होता है लेकिन heat-treated alloys जैसे कि 7075 या 2024 high hardness प्रदान करते हैं।
8. Machinability and Formability
Aluminium को आसानी से cut, drill और form किया जा सकता है। इसकी machinability alloys पर निर्भर करती है, जैसे कि 6061 alloy excellent machinability प्रदान करता है।
