Optical communication systems में signals को receive करने के दो मुख्य तरीके होते हैं – Direct Detection (DD) और Coherent Detection। दोनों methods का उपयोग optical signals को electrical signals में convert करने के लिए किया जाता है, लेकिन उनके काम करने का तरीका, sensitivity और applications अलग-अलग होते हैं।

1️⃣ Direct Detection क्या है?

Direct detection सबसे सरल और widely used optical detection technique है। इसमें optical signal को photodiode के जरिए सीधे detect किया जाता है।

Photodiode optical signal की intensity को sense करता है और उसके proportional electrical current generate करता है। यह intensity-based detection होता है।

2️⃣ Coherent Detection क्या है?

Coherent detection एक advanced technique है जिसमें optical signal को local oscillator के optical signal के साथ mix किया जाता है, जिससे phase और frequency की जानकारी भी मिलती है।

Receiver में एक local laser oscillator होता है, जिसका signal incoming signal के साथ interfere करता है। यह interference electrical signal में phase, frequency और amplitude की detailed जानकारी देती है।
