Graded Index Fiber

Graded Index Fiber Optical Fiber का एक उन्नत प्रकार है जिसमें Core का Refractive Index केंद्र (Center) पर अधिक होता है तथा बाहर की ओर धीरे-धीरे कम होता जाता है। इस प्रकार का Refractive Index Distribution Light Rays की Velocity को नियंत्रित करता है तथा Modal Dispersion को कम करता है।

Step Index Fiber की तुलना में Graded Index Fiber अधिक Bandwidth तथा बेहतर Signal Quality प्रदान करती है। इसलिए यह आधुनिक Fiber Optic Communication Systems में व्यापक रूप से उपयोग की जाती है।

Introduction

Optical Fiber Communication में Data Transmission की गुणवत्ता मुख्य रूप से Dispersion पर निर्भर करती है। Multi Mode Step Index Fiber में विभिन्न Light Rays अलग-अलग Paths से Travel करती हैं, जिसके कारण Signal Distortion उत्पन्न होता है।

इस समस्या को कम करने के लिए Graded Index Fiber विकसित की गई जिसमें Refractive Index धीरे-धीरे बदलता है और सभी Light Rays लगभग समान समय में Destination तक पहुँचती हैं।

Definition

Graded Index Fiber is an optical fiber in which the refractive index of the core decreases gradually from the center towards the cladding.

वह Optical Fiber जिसमें Core का Refractive Index केंद्र से Cladding की ओर धीरे-धीरे कम होता है, Graded Index Fiber कहलाती है।

Principle

Graded Index Fiber Total Internal Reflection तथा Gradual Refractive Index Variation के सिद्धांत पर कार्य करती है।

Core के केंद्र में Refractive Index अधिक होने के कारण Light Rays की Velocity कम होती है जबकि बाहरी भाग में Refractive Index कम होने से Velocity अधिक होती है।

इस प्रकार सभी Rays लगभग समान समय में Fiber के अंत तक पहुँचती हैं।

इस प्रकार का Index Profile Parabolic Shape का होता है।

यह Total Internal Reflection को बनाए रखती है।
